The Institute for Healthcare Improvement states that all healthcare providers have two interdependent roles; one is to do the work and the other to improve the work. This call makes competency in applying evidence-based practice and implementing quality improvement processes an essential component of nursing education and practice. Engaging in evidence-based practice and quality improvement creates opportunities for joy at work. Faculty need to support student success by demonstrating the connections evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and research in nursing education so that it can serve as a bridge to practice where all three are intertwined in work of direct care nurses as they conduct quality improvement and evidence-based practice projects within their specific work units. This program will provide a clear overview for teaching evidence-based practice and quality improvement processes to students and nurses alike, demonstrate meaningful measures to evaluate competence, and share examples of the positive effect this work has on nurses and the institutions that employ them.
