Barb Bancroft’s Clinical Topics for Faculty, Nurses and Students: Long COVID – The Parallel Pandemic
Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, NP

A Live Virtual Event • 12:50 – 3:45 PM (Central Time)
Recording available for 60 days post-event for CE

Why is Long COVID being called the “Parallel Pandemic?” Studies have found that Long COVID is still stopping substantial numbers of people from returning to the workforce. In the first two years of the pandemic, about 71% of people suffering from Long COVID required ongoing medical treatment or had been unable to work for six months or more. More than a year after contracting the coronavirus, many had still not returned to work; more than three-quarters of them younger than 60 years old. For those over 60 years old, Long COVID meant they faced significant difficulty, with challenges increasing with age and co-morbidities. And, women are far worse affected than men. The economic burden is significant. Every nurse has the responsibility to know the signs, the symptoms, the progression, and the newest treatments available for Long COVID. Barb discusses the top 12 symptoms of Long COVID and what we can do to mitigate their effects. Join her as she unravels this still evolving new illness with her characteristic wit and ability to easily explain the physiologic processes at play.
